The 4 dhams of hindu religion .according to hindi mythology every human should visit the 4 dham to rest their souls in peace after death . its very true . it takes you on a ride to serenity . the scenic beauty and the heavenly surroundings with so much peace all around is an evidence of god’s existence in there . Gangotri one of the 4 Dhams of hindu religion is significant for origin of sacred river Ganga . It was the place where bhagirath the father of ganga mediated and called ganga on earth . in gangotri you will find that rock on which Bhagiratha sat an meditated called bhagiratha shila . but when Ganga arrived on earth it was so huge and so powerfull that it could cover the whole earth with water . so Lord shiva submersed the river ganga in his long locks calles JATA . the existence of lord shiva’s existence can be seen here . in summers the flow of ganga is high but in winters all the contributing glaciers freeze and do not contribute to river ganga . in these times the water of ganga is dark blue in colour . this is the only water stream which does not freezes due to cold . way to gaumukh is a real time adventure full of lot many difficulties and rolling rocks or landslides in the way . so be aware of them while walking . after a 18 Km trek you will find a place called bhojwasa . it is a last resting junction for everyone going to gangotri glacier . from bhojwasa you can see gaumukh which is just 2-3 km from here . gaumukh is the end of gangotri glacier which is said to be was in shape of a cow’s face .

Route :

Delhi- haridwar – rishikesh – uttarkashi – gangotri

Day 1 :

Take a bus for rishikesh . night stay at rishikesh .

Day 2 :

Take a bus from rishikesh to uttarkashi . there is very few bus servise to uttarkashi and gangotri from rishikesh so check the bus schedule . there is a single bus from rishikesh to gangotri which leaves at about 6 am in the mornig from rishikesh so just be aware of that .night stay at gangotri . make sure that you have made the authority pemission letter to enter gangotri glacier premisies and gangotri national park . also a letter is to be signed that you are going your own risk and you are very much responsible for yourself of any mishaappening . this permission letter is to be made in uttarkashi or in gangotri itself .

Day 3 :

Start form gangotri to bhojwasa . it will take you about 7-8 hours to reach bhojwasa . night stay at bhojwasa .

Day 4 :

Go to gaumukh which is not more that 2 – 4 km from bhojwasa . and return back the same day to gangotri . night stay at gangotri .

Day 5 :

Take a bus to roorkee .
Night journey to delhi .

Day 6 :

Morning in delhi .
